It has been a very busy year so far. First, I am on site full time, since running the 214 Lab and supervising the AV equipment have been added to my job. In August the first task was to process the new Math books- student and many teacher resources. Then each math class came to the Library during the first week of September so each student could check out his/her 4 textbooks (Math, Science, LA/English, and Social Studies). Mr. Talsky's 7th grade Social Studies classes used the Library to get information & resources, print and online, for their Rome project. At the end of the 2nd week in September the 6th grade Library Orientation started. Each 6th grade LA class comes to the Library for a Policies & Procedures presentation with book check out and a 2-3 period worksheet to introduce them to reference resources, print and online databases. In between these classes I taught in depth online resource classes, administered the STAR test for the AR program, processed new PE and new Health textbooks along with the many teacher resources, introduced the PE classes to the online resource for their Fitness for Life textbook, and updated the Library web page with new online resources. I posted the online links for all the curriculum area textbooks. The televisions and DVD/VCRs were barcoded and entered into the Library management database (Destiny) for inventory control with an Excel document as a hardcopy inventory. Other classes came in for research and books for projects and reports. The Library has been closed for 8 days due to the Annual PTA Book Fair. It will open again this Monday, November 10. Come in and browse the collection. All are welcome.

6th Grade Orientation

Before the 6th graders experienced Library Orientation, Mr. Talsky's 7th grade Social Studies classes visited the Library to check out materials for their Ancient Rome project. They received cards with the address of Ms. Lai's Ancient Rome internet resources and instructions on how to post and share internet resources through del.icio.us. Ms. Adcock's Multicultural Literature class is learning about poetry. To extend their knowledge they checked out poetry books from the Library.

From Monday, September 17 through Friday, September 28, the 6th grade Language Arts classes attended the powerpoint presentation on "Policies and Procedures" given by Ms. Lai in the Library. Then after finding out about general material location, they were able to choose books and check them out.

Mr. Watkin's 7th grade Language Arts classes are working on their second book report. The topic is Biographies. They spent the day Monday, September 24, picking and checking out books for this report.

Starting Monday, October 1, the 6th grade Language Arts classes will return to the Library for the second part of Orientation. They will receive instruction on reference resources and fill out a worksheet to reinforce the instruction. Each student will experiece 5 reference stations to begin to expose them reference resources.

Welcome to the New School Year

Library has the services of a Library Media Teacher, Ms. Terry Lai, for three days (Mondays, Tuesdays and Fridays) for this school year.
